RBC Race for the Kids, October 17-18, 2020
Global Virtual Race supporting youth charities around the world

About Literacy Inc.

Literacy Inc. (LINC) works at the intersection of education and community development to address the literacy crisis facing NYC. Early literacy is essential to the wellbeing of children and to the equitable development of our city. Yet, children living in poverty, who are disproportionately children of color, face far greater challenges in acquiring literacy, far less educational opportunity, far less support, and a far steeper climb to success. Just 46% of NYC public school children, living below the poverty line, read at grade level when tested as 3rd graders.

LINC's mission is to engage families and community members to support young readers in high-need neighborhoods. We empower parents and foster a culture of reading at the neighborhood level. Investing in early literacy yields long-term social, health, and economic benefits for children later in life, and makes our city stronger for all.

RBC Global Virtual Race for the Kids: Supporting Youth Charities Around the World

Throughout the past decade, the RBC Race for the Kids series has grown to include 17 charitable events around the world, raising more than $57 for our charity partners. Due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, we welcome you to our first-ever RBC Global Virtual Race for the Kids. Our ambition is to host the world's largest virtual family fun run in support of over 30 youth-focused charities as they continue their incredible work during this challenging time in history.

Literacy Inc (LINC) is proud to be a Youth INC nonprofit partner and charity beneficiary at this year's virtual RBC Race for the Kids. Now, more than ever, the youth and families we serve need our support to provide equitable literacy development in New York City!

About Us

Literacy Inc. (LINC) works at the intersection of education and community development to address the literacy crisis facing New York City. Early literacy is essential to the wellbeing of children and to the equitable development of our city. Our children’s educational success is the path out of poverty and the key to achievement. Yet, children living in poverty, face far greater challenges in acquiring literacy, far less educational opportunity, far less support, and a far steeper climb to success. Just 46% of NYC public school children, living below the poverty line, read at grade level when tested as third graders.

LINC’s mission is to engage families and community members to support young readers in high-need neighborhoods. LINC harnesses the power that exists in every community to make literacy a value and right of all children. We empower parents and foster a culture of reading at the neighborhood level. Investing in early literacy yields long-term social, health, and economic benefits for children later in life, and makes our city stronger for all. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, LINC swiftly adapted our Early Childhood Programming into daily virtual programming to be accessed via multiple interactive online platforms. LINC is addressing how we can continue to reach families in our communities-- those most affected by the COVID-19 crisis and disproportionately communities of color-- during this critical window in brain development and ensure our digital programs mirror the effectiveness of our in-person, grassroots and community-based support for our families.
