I am supporting the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre.
Charities need us more than ever and that is why I’ve signed up for the first-ever global, virtual RBC Race for the Kids to raise much-needed funds for youth charities around the world.
Did you know as many as 1.2 million Canadian youths are struggling with mental illness? I was shocked to learn that 4 out of 5 of these young people aren’t receiving the care they need. On top of that, COVID-19 has been taking its toll on our youth. After more than a year of the pandemic, almost 7 out of 10 youth report a worsening of their emotional/mental health. These statistics made me realize there’s probably someone in my circle - and in yours - who’s living in pain.
I felt compelled to do something so I’m raising money for the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre. Funds raised will support youth mental health emergency services through specialized mental healthcare, designed for the unique needs of young people. Youth will be cared for in a customized space that is private and calming with direct and immediate access to staff who specialize in managing their care. Your support will ensure patients have the right care when and where they need it, easing stress for patients and their families, along with taking away the sense of stigma often felt with emergency visits.
RVH's Emergency Department cares for three children in mental health crisis on any given day. The isolation and disruption of COVID has caused the number of youth in crisis to climb, at times, up to four times higher than usual. Your support has a direct impact on the quality of care for young people suffering through a mental health crisis, and the concerned families who love them.
Thank you from me and all the RBC Race for the Kids participants and charities! #RBCRacefortheKids
