Your pace, your place, your people. Starting September 10th you'll have two weeks to complete 5k of your favourite activity in support of youth mental health at RVH. Grab your friends, family or colleagues and walk, run, bike, rollerblade - sky's the limit! Then come join us on September 24th at one of our two Celebration Stations (in Barrie and Innisfil) to pick up your Did It! Kit (containing your exclusive medal and other goodies) and enjoy some sweet treats on us.
The funds you raise will help create a customized space in RVH's Emergency Department for young people experiencing a mental health crisis. The space will be private and calming, with direct and immediate access to staff who specialize in youth mental health care. Your support will ensure patients have the right care when and where they need it, easing stress for patients and their families, and taking away the sense of stigma often felt with emergency visits.
Your participation is so important:
- The isolation and disruption of COVID has caused the number of youth in crisis to increase, at times, up to four times higher than usual.
- On any given day, RVH's Emergency Department sees three children in mental health crisis.
Your support will have a direct impact on the quality of care for young people suffering through a mental health crisis, and the families who love them.

A Global Family Run Supporting Youth Charities Around the World
Since 2009, RBC Race for the Kids has grown to an exciting series of 17 charitable Races taking around the world, supporting kids and youth-focused causes. In total, 290,000+ participants have raised more than C$65 million.
In 2020, the series of in-person Races couldn’t happen so we pivoted to a global, virtual RBC Race for the Kids to continue raising much-needed funds for our charity partners. Last year, over 33,000 participants from 120+ countries raised more than C$8.8 million!
Join us and participants from all around the globe to raise awareness and support for our 35 charity partners in 19 countries – and the young people they help during this challenging time.

Why Your Support Matters
Your support will directly impact the lives of young people experiencing a mental health crisis, and the families who love them.
"Watching my brother struggle while waiting for care in the Emergency Department was the most helpless I've ever felt. In his worst moment, experiencing a mental health crisis, he was surrounded by stares, whispers and stigma. This escalated an already terrible situation. Having a private and quiet space would have provided comfort and the kind of specialized care that would have improved not only his experience, but that of our entire family."
- Joyce, sister of past RVH patient
"When your child is experiencing a mental health crisis, their care becomes your sole priority. Waiting in the Emergency Department while he painstakingly struggled to maintain a level of composure that felt impossible to him at the time - while assuming others were acutely aware of the reason for his visit - is something he often recalls as horrific. A private and calming space to wait, while receiving timely specialized care, would have improved such a traumatic experience for him. As a parent it would have given me hope - something I often struggled to find at the time."
- Don, mother of past RVH patient
"If you've ever experienced a mental health crisis you know a trip to the Emergency Department can cause elevated feelings of stress due to not knowing how many other patients will be present, how long the process will take, or what the experience will feel like. This plays a direct role in access to emergency mental healthcare. Providing a calming and private environment, with timely access to specialized care, that patients can expect would change the entire experience, and ultimately make it more accessible. It could truly be life changing."
- Jeff, father of past RVH patient
