MEET OUR KIDS

Meet our RBC Race for the Kids ambassadors!

You'll be racing for these little legends.

Four year-old Kyesha was diagnosed with leukemia two years ago. She is currently in remission after recovering from a bone marrow transplant.

“Kyesha has been so sick throughout her treatment since June 2019, and when she relapsed she was so brave again. She’s always strong and helps the nurses, she just takes everything in her stride. She’s been very scared at times throughout this, though always so brave and strong.” – Terri, Kyesha’s mum

7-year-old Ashley was diagnosed with leukemia late last year. It has been an intense few months, full of scary surgeries, treatments and procedures.and fairy tales.

"We're regular families going through a challenging time, emotionally, financially, and sometimes physically. The House is for people who have travelled great distances for medical care that we can't get where we live. Any support they can provide to ease some of the stress is gratefully appreciated."

Five-year old Savannah is a cheeky and caring little girl. She loves nature and art, and playing dressing up with her younger sister Audrey.

Imagine what it is like for a parent, to be told your child has cancer. Everything else suddenly doesn’t matter anymore, and the only focus is on doing whatever it takes to help them get healthy again.

That’s where Ronald McDonald House comes in. Having a warm and welcoming place to sleep, with home cooked meals and a community of staff and volunteers all there to support you, is life-changing for families like Savannah’s.

Two years ago, Luca was diagnosed with a rare combination of cancers, that had not been seen before in Sydney Children’s Hospital.
The very next day after the diagnosis, Luca was flown to Sydney to start treatment right away.

For the first few weeks of Luca’s treatment, he and his family had to rent an apartment until a room at Ronald McDonald House in Randwick became available.

“It saved our lives. You go through the hardest time in taking your kid through cancer. You don’t want to get past that battle and then have to rebuild whatever you spent the last however many years building”, his father Justin said.
