Bridge for Smile (B4S) supports foster children in Japan who cannot depend on their parents to overcome disparities in “hope” and “security” and gain the courage to face the future.
Bridge for Smile works to help children living in foster homes become independent. Specifically, we hold seminars to help them prepare for living on their own while they are living in foster homes. And, we provide internship work opportunities to help them think about their future through work experience. We also provide ongoing volunteer support to help them feel secure after they leave the facility or foster home. B4S's operations are made possible by countless volunteers and corporate/organization fundraising partners.
RBC Race for the Kids is a flagship fundraising event for B4S. This year's donations will support one of the organization's representative programs called "Sudachi" (Leaving the Nest) - a program that B4S has run since its establishment. The program is supported by almost 200 volunteers, coming from varying age groups and occupations, and teaches 250 high school seniors annually through a series of 6 one-day seminars the basic skills for living independently. The seminars also provide an opportunity for the youths to find fellow peers with whom they can confide in after "leaving their nests".
